Userlist MCP Server
The Userlist MCP server lets you work with your Userlist account from AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or VS Code. It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other apps.
Once connected, you can ask your AI assistant things like:
- “Which users signed up last week but haven’t completed onboarding yet?”
- “Show me the triggers and steps of our trial onboarding workflow.”
- “Draft a broadcast announcing our new reporting feature, using the same tone as our last product update.”
- “Create a segment for companies on the Pro plan with more than 10 users.”
Server URL
Use the following URL when adding Userlist to your AI tool:
1
https://mcp.userlist.com
The server uses the Streamable HTTP transport and OAuth for authentication. You don’t need an API key. When you connect for the first time, you’ll be asked to sign in to Userlist and approve access.
Setting up the integration
Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector.
- Enter
Userlistas the name andhttps://mcp.userlist.comas the URL, then click Add. - Click Connect and sign in to Userlist to approve access.
Connectors you add on claude.ai are also available in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add the connector for the organization first.
Claude Code
Run the following command in your terminal:
1
claude mcp add --transport http userlist https://mcp.userlist.com
Then start Claude Code, run /mcp, select userlist, and follow the prompts to sign in to Userlist.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors.
- Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
- Click Create, enter
Userlistas the name andhttps://mcp.userlist.comas the URL, and choose OAuth as the authentication method. - Sign in to Userlist to approve access.
Custom connectors are only available on some ChatGPT plans. Check OpenAI’s documentation for details.
Cursor
Add the following to your ~/.cursor/mcp.json file (or .cursor/mcp.json in your project):

7
{
"mcpServers": {
"userlist": {
"url": "https://mcp.userlist.com"
}
}
}
Then open Cursor Settings → MCP, and click Login next to the Userlist server to approve access.
VS Code
Add the following to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace:

6
7
8
{
"servers": {
"userlist": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.userlist.com"
}
}
}
Click Start above the server entry and follow the prompts to sign in to Userlist.
Other AI tools
Any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth can connect to Userlist. Add https://mcp.userlist.com as a remote (HTTP) MCP server and follow your tool’s instructions to authenticate.
Approving access
When you connect, Userlist asks you to sign in and shows which tool is requesting access. If you’re a member of multiple Userlist accounts, pick the account you want to connect. The connection only has access to that one account. To work with another account, add the server a second time and pick a different account.
Changes made through the MCP server are made on your behalf, as your Userlist user.
What your AI assistant can do
The MCP server gives your AI assistant access to the following areas of your account:
| Area | Access |
|---|---|
| Broadcasts | List, view, create, and update |
| Transactional Messages | List, view, create, and update |
| Segments | List, view, create, and update |
| Workflows, including their steps and triggers | List and view |
| Snippets | List, view, create, and update |
| Users, companies, relationships, and events | List and view |
| Your data schema, such as properties, event names, and senders | List |
Your AI assistant can also look up Userlist’s own documentation, for example to learn how message content and segment conditions are structured.
What it can’t do
To keep your account and your customers safe, the MCP server can’t:
- Send or schedule broadcasts. Broadcasts created through the MCP server are saved as drafts, so you can review them in Userlist before sending.
- Delete anything.
- Create or change workflows.
- Create, update, or delete users, companies, or events. Use our Push API or one of our integrations to send data to Userlist.
Tips for working with the MCP server
- Be specific about what you want. “Draft a broadcast for users in the Trial segment about our new import feature” works better than “Write an email.”
- Point it to examples. Ask your assistant to look at an existing broadcast or template first, so new messages match your style and formatting.
- Review before you send. Always check drafts in Userlist before sending them. AI assistants can make mistakes.
Disconnecting
To disconnect, remove the Userlist server or connector from your AI tool’s settings. This removes the connection from that tool and you’ll need to sign in again to reconnect.
