Big books for little wins

Besides cranking out new features at Userlist, we also try to improve our mindset and become a better company & better humans. Plenty of the insights come from books.

Besides cranking out new features at Userlist, we also try to improve our mindset and become a better company & better humans. Plenty of the insights come from books, so today I want to share some of the most powerful titles with you.

Here’s the list:

  • Start With Why (followed up with The Infinite Game) by Simon Sinek — hands down, a life-changing book for me. A great take on what makes great companies, and why we should never compete on features.
  • Shape Up by Ryan Singer — a great take on product management from the creators of Basecamp. We’re currently working on adopting some of these practices at Userlist. Free to download as PDF or read online.
  • Antifragile by Nassim Taleb — some fundamental concepts about how to think about the world. One of my favorites is iatrogenics in medicine and other industries, when an intervention brings more harm (risk) than positive effect.
  • SuperBetter by Jane McGonigal — this book was recommended by one of my podcast guests, Amy Bucher. Very helpful as we try to stay sane and make little wins. We have three kids in the house so every day brings a new challenge… Fun tip: play Tetris for 5 minutes to reset your brain.

Hope this makes your day a bit brighter :)

— Regards, Jane.
